It’s almost been a year since I’ve been active, whoops.

Going to be participating in an “art class” with some friends doing weekly drawings. Hopefully will get me back in the swing of things! Will post all results. (I need to finish a bunch of old drawings, too.)

I had this concept sketched out two or so days ago, finally cracked down and went at it today. It was nice to draw something for myself again. I’m super happy that I’m finally able to finish all my old requests, but after a while of going over old work I got burnt out. Getting to do Cargo’s b-day gift and this one have put me in much better spirits.

Maxi and April - These chicks tend to take photos of themselves (and friends) mimicing ridiculous comic book poses.

Fuck No Greg Land - If you enjoy humorous criticisms of comic book art (that are well-deserved) you can check out this tumblr dedicated to the shortcomings of Greg Land. (There are moments of praise thrown in, too.)

Aeonium - Friend of mine I used to work with at Dick Blick. She uses this tumblr to post inspiring/beautiful/interesting images she finds, and I really like what she has to share.

Luna-m0th - This blog posts pictures of pretty, wacky, and crazy bugs. It is neat.

Fuck Yeah Awesome Food - Self-explanatory.

These are some art tumblrs I follow:

Krudman - Fanboys webcomic creator, he is super nice and I like keeping track of his work. It’s amazing how far he’s come since he first started the comic.

Beatonna - Kate Beaton, creator of Hark! A Vagrant. I really enjoy her history posts.

Coelasquid - Creator of Manly Guys Doing Manly Things. I originally followed her blog for the art but I love reading her opinions when she gets into debates on various subjects.

Harpeaux - Just started following this tumblr at random, fantastic cartooning and animation projects.

Paperbeatsscissors - Another random art tumblr. This guy’s work is freakin’ amazing.

Aidosaur - Yuko Ota, creator of Johnny Wander. She’s got a really adorable style and I love her work.

Not sure if this would be a plus for you, but whenever I want to see what these guys post I usually have to visit the individual tumblrs, because they don’t post as frequently and tend to get buried in my dash. (This is more because of some of the people I follow than these tumblrs’ posting habits, they are all active tumblrs. They’re just not crazy.)

As in, are there any settings or adjustments that result in a much cleaner and accurate scanned drawing?

I’m on a mission involving a series of colored-pencil drawings and I’d like to know how best to translate them into a digital format.

It helps if you have a program like Photoshop available. I don’t have experience with this technique, but some of my friends will scan their images with either the brightness or contrast adjusted - it depends on your scanner, usually you can preview the results so mess around with it. You essentially want a result that leaves the colors relatively untouched, since scanning can wash out traditionally colored pieces.

Afterwards you go into Photoshop and edit out the gray that results where white should be. I also know that you can just avoid all this and tweak colors themselves in Photoshop, but I have no experience with digital art/photomanip programs (which will hopefully change).

I’m sorry I don’t have more direct advice, but definitely play around with your scanner’s settings. (You can always write down or type up what the original settings are in case you’re worried about losing them.)

I lied, German suplexing will be later.

Pokemon gijinka requests: male Typhlosion and male Bayleef, with finished versions of earlier gijinkas. I’ve been needing to get these finished since I’m starting to develop a backlog, so I’m half’n’halfing it - finishing up some old ones while completing a few new ones, then releasing them together in batches.

I’m not really happy with how the marker’s coming out. It’s so streaky. Maybe it’s more blatant since I’m doing flat tones over shades, idk. Might just ink them and use pencil to fill in dark areas, if it comes out all right on the scanner.

Tried something different and simpler with the shading. The result is interesting. Could use some tweaking.

I have so many pieces to finish that I am saving my Copics for some more detailed art, not sure how much ink is in some of the markers. If they don’t dry out on me I will go back and simple shade this, but for now I consider it finished.

Pokemon gijinka requests: female Glameow, female Reuniclus, female Ampharos, male Espeon, and a baby (unspecified gender) Hippopotas.

Last night I got into this ridiculous groove (I should listen to Goldfish more often) and just blasted through requests in one sitting. That groove apparently carried into today! I ended up redoing the Jynx and Machamp, as well as the two Gardevoirs, and then I retouched every past gijinka I’ve done. Apparently I can only post a maximum of ten images so I just included the ones that were changed the most.

Also, I’ll be getting my scanner and art supplies tomorrow! I will be going back and finishing every single WIP I’ve posted. Productive times are ahead.
